For generations of Americans, Fred Waring (1900-1984) was known as the "Man Who Taught America How To Sing." As early as the 1920's, Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians (then a quartet) were in great demand for shows at movie theaters throughout the country. By the 1930's, the group had developed into a large vocal group and fifty-five piece orchestra, and their radio shows, broadcast coast to coast, became some of the most popular in broadcast history. Fred Waring had a successful career on television, highlighted by his appearances on the Voice of Firestone series. The telecast of March 23, 1959 features a program of Easter music arranged by Roy Ringwald in which Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians display the techinical skill and spiritual and creative energy for which the group and its conductor were famous. The inspiring performances included on this program secure Waring's reputation not only as "America's Singing Master," but also as one of its greatest entertainers.
