Part of a series on the lives of Russia's most influential writers, this video provides a biographical account of Bolshevik poet Vladimir Mayakovsky. The biography, while not exhaustive, provides a good overview of the revolutionary poet's life, from his birth in 1983 to his suicide in 1930. Footage includes shots of the geographical areas where Mayakovsky lived and worked. His more famous works are addressed, including The Backbone Flute, Left March, Ode to Revolution, and A Cloud in Trousers. Detailed analysis of his work in half an hour is not possible, however, and the video remains primarily a biographical piece.
