American soprano Dorothy Kirsten's Metropolitan Opera debut in 1945 as Mimi in "La Boheme" marked the beginning of an illustrious association with that company spanning more than thirty years. Kirsten's bright, gleaming lyric voice was particularly suited to the music of Puccini, where her voice could soar effortlessly and yet retain at all times a youthful sweetness. Kirsten appeared on the Voice of Firestone on three occaisions, two of which were preserved on kinescopes. Her partners on these shows are the baritones Mario Sereni, whose long operatic career was distinguished by his beautiful vibrant vocal tone and exceptional dramatic cabilities; and Thomas L. Thomas, whose exquisitely polished vocal style made him one of this country's most beloved singers of opera and lighter music.
