Swiss-born soprano Lisa Della Casa, best remembered for her roles in the operas of Mozart, Strauss and Wagner, is not often associated with the music of Giacomo Puccini. And yet it was as Cio-Cio-San in Puccini's "Madama Butterfly" that she made her operatic debut in 1941. At the Metropolitan Opera, she was heard in "Madama Butterfly," and during the 1960-61 season she sang a single performance of Mimi in "La Boheme." Ffor her appearances on "The Voice of Firestone", Della Casa turned to two Puccini favorites, "La Boheme" and "Tosca", assisted by tenors Nicolai Gedda, Ricahrd Tucker and Giuseppe Campora. These rare television performances offer vivid testimony to the vocal opulence of this great artist.
